Lakeview-Stanley Orville Marshall, age 96, of Lakeview, formerly of Otisville, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Corewell Health Hospital in Greenville. Stan was the patriarch of a large Marshall family and a leader and respected member of a much larger UAW family. From the final assembly line at the Buick plant in Flint to a Vice President post in Solidarity House in Detroit, Stan was ever loyal to his union family and worked tirelessly to advance their interests.
He was born in Belding on April 8, 1928, the son of Orville and Beulah (Allison) Marshall. Stan attended Lakeview High School, graduating with the Class of 1946. He then served honorably for 3 years in the US Army Air Corps, now the Air Force, during the reorganization of Japan post WWII. Stan was employed by General Motors in 1950 and worked at Buick in Flint until becoming part of the International staff in 1977. While at Buick, he worked in the final assembly plant, was a committee man, Shop Committee, and Chairperson of the bargaining unit. In 1977 Stan joined the International staff in Region 1C and was elected as Regional Director in 1983. In 1989, he was elected to the International UAW board as a Vice President and served in that position until his retirement in June of 1995. In retirement he continued to serve his union family by representing retirees and organizing services and programs for those retirees.
Stan was a member of the American Legion Post #164 in Millington, MI. When he was younger, he enjoyed hunting with friends and family and camping and traveling with his children. He faithfully attended his children’s athletic events. Throughout his life he loved golfing and was a passionate U of M sports fan. Stan attended his last football game at Michigan Stadium a few weeks ago as a guest of President Ono.
Stan is survived by his children, Matthew (Sue) Marshall of Lakeview, Marty (Tina) Marshall of Adrian, Andy (Chris) Marshall of Mecosta, Rick (Nancy) Marshall of Mecosta, Vicki (Dean) Pless of Millington, Beth Werner of Kalamazoo, Debbie (Vern) Cooper of Millington, Randy (Jaymie) Marshall of Laingsburg, Stan (Alisha) Marshall of Davison; 26 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; life partner and best friend, Brenda and her children, Jim, Rhonda, and Kim.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lynda Louise Marshall; his parents, Orville and Beulah; and siblings, James, Donnie and Mildred.
He was very thankful for his caregivers over the last three years who made it possible for him to remain healthy and independent. Kim, Beth and Dahlia were a blessing in his life.
