Verna Louise (Bennett) Osika
Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Hyde Park Memory Care in Flushing at age 81 with her family by her side.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10am Saturday April 7, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Michael O'Brien officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home-Owosso Chapel on Friday April 6 from 2pm to 8pm with a rosary being prayed at 7pm.
Verna was born October 10, 1936 in Saginaw, the daughter of Albert and Rose (Newvine) Bennett. She married Stephen P. Osika on October 15, 1955. He predeceased her on October 12, 1991. Verna was a devout Catholic and was a long time member of St. Joseph Church in Owosso, Michigan. Verna was known for her sweet, lively personality with a love for polka music, dancing with her husband, traveling and a love to cook and bake for others.
Verna was employed as a baker at Owosso Memorial Hospital and Gracie's in New Lothrop.
Verna is survived by her beloved children Steven (Carla) Osika of Lennon, Andrew (Teresa) Osika of Lennon, Joseph (Cindy) Osika of Lennon, Bernadette Osika (Pat Baird) of Flushing, John (Julie) Osika of Canton and Laura (John) Clymer of Rockford; brother Frank Bennett; and grandchildren Angela, Melissa, Andrew Jr., Jessica, Joshua, Candice, Danielle, Katelyn, Brian, Brandon, Emily, Drew, Tim, Sarah and Lauren; and eight great-grandchildren. Verna also leaves many dear nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and friends.
Verna was preceded in death by her husband Stephen; son Michael, sister Barbara Macklin and brother James.
Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial to the Alzheimer's Association or the Hyde Park Memory Care Unit.
The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the caregivers at Hyde Park Memory Care and to Heart to Heart Hospice.
