Van CAMP, Elizabeth -- Age 82, of Swartz Creek, died peacefully at home in the care of her family, as she had always wanted, on March 27, 2017. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11 AM Friday March 31 at St. Pius X Catholic Church G-3139 Hogarth Avenue, Flint. Fr. Anthony Strouse celebrant. Burial at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Flint. Visitation will be held 3-5 PM and 6-8 PM Thursday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, where a rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Thursday. Visitation will also be held 10AM until time of service at the church on Friday. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Elizabeth was born September 29, 1934, in Flint the daughter of Joseph and Mary Gasper. She married James Burton Van Camp, he preceded her in death in 2007. She was a devoted and loving wife, sister, mother, and grandmother. A true matriarch, she was the touchstone for a large and diverse family. She taught them by example an appreciation for the gift of each other, the world around them and , faith in God. Elizabeth was an avid collector of rocks and gems, with a special appreciation for Lake Superior agates. She also enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, music and watching movies with her loved ones. She instilled in her children a fierce pride in their Hungarian heritage and appreciation for a properly prepared cabbage roll.
She is survived by her brother, Jospeh and wife Mary Gasper of Gainsville FL; sister, Mary Lynn Morrissey, of Marysville, TN; brother, Robert and wife Karen Gasper of Indianapolis, IN; 7 children, Sr. Joan Marie Van Camp (Sr. Josepha) of Swartz Creek, Susan Michelle Van Camp of Swartz Creek, Margaret Louise Van Camp and dear friend, Cindy Cieciwa of Swartz Creek, James Charles "Chip" Van Camp of Swartz Creek, Robert Mathew and wife, Rosie Van Camp of Holly, Michael Alexander and wife, Cathy Van Camp of Swartz Creek, Jennifer Leigh Welch of Flint; eleven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Gasper; her husband, James Burton Van Camp in 2007; sister, Margaret; sons-in-law, Michael Welch (Jennifer) and Mark Harmon (Susan).
