David R. Asselin, age 76, of Swartz Creek, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at McLaren Select Specialty Hospital. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 4413 Morrish Road, Swartz Creek with Fr. Louis Ekka as celebrant. Committal service will follow with Navy Military Honors present at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery, Grand Blanc. Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM until 8:00 PM on Monday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek and on Monday evening the family and parish will gather to pray the rosary at 7:00 PM. On Tuesday morning, David will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the family.
David was born on March 11, 1948 in Flint the son of the late Adalbert "Del" and Helen (Kosick) Asselin. He graduated from Holy Redeemer Catholic School, class of 1966. Following his education, David enlisted into the United States Navy, proudly serving during the Vietnam War from March 5, 1968 until his honorable discharge in January 5, 1973. David and Julia Gilbert met, dated, fell in love and were united in marriage on December 6, 1969 at St. Mary Queen of Angels. He worked for 30 years at GM in electrical until his retirement in 1999. David was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Swartz Creek. He loved spending time with his family, dancing and he was a classic car enthusiast.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Julia Asselin; children, Jennifer (Steven) Loftin, Jayme Asselin, Jo Ann Asselin, Donovan (CJ) Asselin, David (Briana) Asselin and Jessica (David) Siri; grandchildren, Steffanie, Amanda (Nathan), Andrew, Justin, Charlotte, Lizzy, Natalie, Kaitlyn and Tyler; great-grandson, Damian; niece, Dawn (Larry) VanNewkirk and their family; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his daughter, Jacqueline Elaine Asselin; sister, Phyllis Van Eckhoutte; and nephews, Rod and Scott. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. |
