SCHMIDT, Mary Jane – of Mt. Morris, age 89, died peacefully on Friday, October 11, 2024, at her residence surrounded by family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at the St. Mary’s Church – 11110 Saginaw St., Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Roy Horning officiant. Burial at Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, from 11AM until 8PM and Wednesday at the church from 10AM until the time of Mass. A Rosary will be prayed at 7PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Those desiring may donate to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Mt. Morris.

Mary Jane was born November 1, 1934, in Flint, to the late James and Alvaretta (Michael) Power. She received her high school diploma from St. Mary’s Catholic School and earned her nursing certificate from St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw. Mary later retired from General Motors. On September 17, 1955, she married William H. Schmidt. William preceded her in death. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she was in the Altar Society, and she enjoyed visiting the Krapohl Senior Center in Mt. Morris. Mary Jane enjoyed keeping herself busy with crafting and tending to her several gardens. Her spunk and fun-loving nature made every moment spent with her a memorable one. She had a remarkable memory and a special way of making everyone feel cherished whenever they were in her presence. Above all, Mary Jane was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be greatly missed.

Mary Jane is forever remembered by her Children: Marcia McCarthy, Melissa (Earnie) George, Lynn (Robert Bauler) Romero, Margo (Harley) Slocum, Bill (Karen) Schmidt, Warren (Becky) Schmidt, and Nikolaus (Sarah) Schmidt; Grandchildren: Claire (Joe) McDowell, Andrew (Lisa) McCarthy, Rachel Middleton, Ernie George, Jr., Sarah Romero, Lucas Schmidt, Ethan Romero, Katelyn Romero Alyssa Slocum, Elizabeth Schmidt, Ethan Schmidt, Sam Schmidt, Olivia Schmidt, Audrey Schmidt, Liam Schmidt, Emmalie Schmidt, and Owen Schmidt; Great Grandchildren: Oliver, Jonathon, Margaret, and De’asya; Sisters: Rosemary (Armand) Boyer and Rita Vogel; Goddaughters, Shelly Eycleshymer and Terri Garcia; Several nieces, nephews, extended family, and wonderful friends. Mary Jane was preceded in death by her Parents, James and Alvaretta Power; Husband, William Schmidt; Grandsons: Elias Romero and Michael Slocum; Siblings: Pat Hemingway, Katherine Eid, and Michael Power; Brother-in-law, Jerry Vogel; Wilson Hemingway, Nephew, Paul Roltsh, Danny Vogel
