BODDY, Cherry (Bonnie ) Maxine - of Burton, age 91, passed away Monday, October 9, 2017, at Caretel Inns of Linden.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, October 19, 2017, at Central Church of the Nazarene, 1261 West Bristol Road, Flint. Pastor Jon Gildner and Pastor Matthew Soulia will be officiating.
Visitation will be from 5-8:00pm, Wednesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Visitation 10am, Thursday at church until time of the service.
Cherry (known to everyone as Bonnie) was born in Gideon, Missouri on November 9, 1925, the daughter of John and Bessie (New) Smith. She spent most of her childhood in Flint, living on a farm and trying to keep up with a family of 11 members. She attended Grand Blanc High School.
On June 26, 1943, she married a wonderful man, Roland Edward Boddy, in Westwood, California. As a new bride, she worked at Boeing during WWII while her husband served in the United States Army, stationed in the Philippine Islands.
Bonnie believed her calling in life was that of a wife, mother, and grandma. Her commitment, joy and love for each family member was clearly evident. She loved reading, planting flowers, crosswords, jigsaw puzzles, baking, and caring for her home and her family.
She was a member of Huron Street Methodist Church and then later at Central Church of the Nazarene where she was very involved, happily serving her Lord, wherever her servant's heart was needed. Whether it was teaching, Sunday School, youth, singles, or participating in music, she and Roland could be found making a difference in other's lives. They opened their home to many, whether for an evening of fun or for an extended stay. Remembrances of her faithfulness, integrity, strength and gentle quiet spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are children: Michael (Kristen Leslie) Boddy of Webster Grove, MO, Janet (David) Kunz of Dodgeville, WI, Daniel (Tammie) Boddy of Milford, MI, JoAnne (Jess) Soulia of Flushing, MI; 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, sister Rosemary (Carl) Murphy of Arizona, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland, on April 25, 2017, her parents, 4 sisters: Hazel, Mildred, Berniece and Joyce; and 3 brothers: Harry, Raymond and Clyde.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to all who loved and cared for Bonnie over the past few years. Your ministry will not be forgotten.
