SKINNER, Betty Jean - Age 89 , of Swartz Creek, died April 9, 2013 at Avalon Hospice. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, April 12 at the Swartz Creek United Methodist Church, 7400 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, Rev. Kevin Harbin officiating. Interment in Bendle Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 PM Wednesday, 12-5 and 7-9 PM Thursday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek; and 10AM until the time of the funeral at church Friday.

Betty was born October 10, 1923 in Lansing the daughter of Frederick and Rose (Bramm) Baxter. She was a graduate of Lansing Eastern High School in 1942 and Michigan Sate University in 1946 with her Bachelor Degree in Education. She married Floyd K Skinner on August 18, 1946 in Lansing. She worked as a teacher at Albion High School for three years. Later she worked for Meijer on Pierson Road for 10 years retiring in 1985.

Betty was a member of the Swartz Creek United Methodist Church, served on the church Administrative Board, and was a member of the Primetimers. She was a volunteer for the Girls Scouts, and served on the PTA at Grand River School in Lansing. She was a member of the Swartz Creek Senior Center and the Krapohl Senior Center. She enjoyed Square Dancing for over 30 years.

Surviving are: husband Floyd; four children, David Skinner of Brighton, Roger (Maryann) Skinner of Anchorage, Alaska, Linda (Art) Sholtey of Durand, Susan (Bill) Martin of Sarasota, FL; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Skinner, Lucille Bancroft, and Shirley Meyer; many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Richard (Edith) Baxter, Juanita (John) Assiff, Rosemarie (James) Nuser; daughter-in-law Paula Skinner; son-in-law Elvin Lockhart; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim Skinner, Ward Skinner, Lois and Bob Frank, and Ethel Skinner and Dean Bancroft. .
