Loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother died peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 27, 2016, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was born August 18, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of the late James R. and Agnes L. (McNally) Desmond. She married her husband of 67 years, Jack W. Wiltz, on September 10, 1949 in Detroit Michigan. Joan is survived by her husband Jack Wiltz; and her children Cheryl (Bruce) Elliott of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Nancy (Dr. Richard) Bennum of Stowe, Vermont; Dr. John Wiltz (Vicki) of Naples, Florida; and Mark Wiltz of Rochester Hills, Michigan. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Michael (Dawn) Wiltz of Clawson, Michigan; Jennifer (Paul) Catanese of Seattle, Washington; Lauren Wiltz of Charlotte, North Carolina; Scott Wiltz of St. Louis, Missouri; Andrew Wiltz of Roscommon, Michigan; Courtney (David) Burkart of Portland, Oregon; George Bennum of Somerville, Massachusetts; Marissa (Matthew) Streng of Farmington Hills, Michigan; Russell Bennum of Colchester, Vermont; and Griffen Wiltz of Milford, Michigan; and great-grandchild Hunter Joseph Streng. She is also survived by her sister Kathryn (Darr) Horan of Kimball Township, Michigan. Joan was a longtime member and supporter of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, including its Episcopal Church Women organization. She also had longtime associations, including board service, with the Junior League of Flint, YWCA Greater Flint, Wednesday Club, St. Cecilia Society, Junior Lady Wolverton; Division of Needlework Guild of America (NGA), Flint, MI, and Senior NGA, Flint, MI. Joan and her husband Jack were benefactors of the Michigan State University Eli Broad School of Business; their support established the Jack W. and Joan M. Wiltz International Business Scholarship as well as a Study Room at the MSU Business Library. Joan and Jack were sponsors of the Flint College and Cultural Center Development Fund and supported the Flint Public Library and the Sloan Museum in Flint and the Old North Church in Boston. In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her brothers Bernard Desmond, James Desmond, Vincent Desmond, Edward Desmond and Richard Desmond. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, October 6, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00p.m. at Swartz Funeral Home in Flint, Michigan. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 7, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Flint, Michigan with Father Dan Scheid officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Junior League of Flint, or your local Alzheimer’s Association.
