JOHNSTON, James R. – of Davison, age 75, passed away July 20, 2012 at Genesys Hospice Care Center, Goodrich. A Funeral Service will be held 12 p.m. Monday, July 23, 2012 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison; Pastor Chris Radcliffe officiating. Burial will follow in Davison Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Monday.
Jim was born in Davison on December 22, 1936, son of the late James W. and Alneta (Hilliker) Johnston. He was a graduate of Davison High School and Michigan State University where he accomplished both a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Education. Jim married Darlene Ann Diehl on June 26, 1960. He was a principal as well as a high school agriculture and science teacher with the Harbor Beach Community Schools. Jim’s career spanned 39 years. He was an active member of the Harbor Beach community where he participated in the Jaycees and was the past president of both the Rotary Club and the Lions Club. Jim was also a member of First Baptist Church, Davison. He enjoyed painting, drawing, cooking, gardening and camping.
Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, Darlene; children, Scott (Sherri) Johnston of Caledonia, MI, Stephen (Kristi Jo) Johnston of Huntsville, AL and Jay (Kristie) Johnston of Midland, MI; grandchildren, Sheridan Johnston, Shannon Johnston, Connor Johnston and Shane Johnston; siblings, Esther Shaffer, Nancy Vohwinkle and Bill Johnston. He was preceded in death by brothers, John and Carl Johnston and sisters, Janis Sullivan and Mary Hollo.
