She is a lifelong resident of Shiawassee County where she leaves behind her indelible mark. Katherine graduated from Morrice High School in 1963 and completed a year Flint Community College before pursuing her passion as a cosmetologist at the Owosso Beauty Academy. Her career in cosmetology spanned nearly six decades, starting with her own shop, "The Golden Touch," and evolved to provide services from her home as well as volunteer services to nursing home residents.
On October 12, 1968, Katherine married the love of her life, Warren Mark Gutting, at St. Mary's Church in Morrice, Michigan. Together, they built a life centered around their faith and family. Katherine was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she found great solace and joy.
Her family was her greatest pride and joy and she is lovingly remembered by her loving husband, Warren, and children, Mark Gutting of Stockbridge, Marla Price (Dominic) of Owosso, Marci VanHorn (Ronald) of St. Johns and Marlin Gutting (Stephanie) of Howell. Her grandchildren Andrew Price (Lindsey), Lucas Price, Benjamin Price (Taylor), Teanna Zuker (Alex), Brittany VanHorn (Dakota Chant fiancé), Breslin Gutting, Sylvia Gutting, Chase Okorowski (Alexandria), Megan LaFontaine (Jeremy), Hannah Gutting, Hailee Fraser-Gutting and her great-grandchildren Audrey, Lincoln, Bennett, Jackson, Madelyn, Sophia who will forever hold her memory in their hearts. Katherine was predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Ida, and her siblings Elizabeth Lezovich, John “Jack” Tyrrell, and Edward Tyrrell.
Katherine's grandchildren, who affectionately called her Grandma, Granny, and G-ma, were the light of her life. She never missed an opportunity to support them at sporting events and activities, always cheering the loudest from the stands. An amazing cook, she loved preparing meals for her family, ensuring that no one ever left her table hungry.
Her home was a sanctuary of warmth and welcome, filled with the laughter of card game, especially Euchre, and the joy of family gatherings. Katherine's collection of angels, which began with a single gift in her beauty shop, grew to an impressive array of nearly 2,500, each one a symbol of her generous spirit and tender heart.
Katherine's interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. She was an avid camper, a member of the Shoreline Lake Condo Association for over 40 years, and she found great pleasure in playing penny and nickel slots at the casino with Warren. Her voice, known for its beauty, could often be heard singing, and her storytelling brought smiles and comfort to all who listened.
She lived a life that was faith-filled, loving, and optimistic. She was the embodiment of a generous spirit, always putting others before herself. Her unwavering support and selfless nature made her a pillar in her community and an angel on Earth. Her story is one of a life beautifully lived and a soul destined for heaven. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who were blessed to know her.
