JOHN C. GROSS, JR., age 82 of Coleman, formerly of Otisville, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Thursday, December 13, 2012, after passing away peacefully at his home with his wife, Norma, by his side. A funeral service will be held at 1PM Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at the Mumford – Hudson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Smith Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8PM Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at the funeral home. John was born on April 30, 1930 in Otisville to John and Thelma (Vantine) Gross. He was always busy and had a landscaping business in the 1950’s that he did on the weekends. He gave that up when Norma and he bought their farm in Otisville in 1961, where they farmed and raised their family. He worked for General Motors at the engine plant for 30 years, retiring in 1980. They later sold the farm and moved to Coleman, where they have lived for the last 21 years. John enjoyed life and his family. He learned how to sharpen saws and opened his own sharpening business at his home. He worked every day sharpening saws and anything else that had an edge. He made many friends through the years. Once you met John you would never forget him. He traveled to Alaska and every other state, except Hawaii. He especially enjoyed traveling with his wife and children. John and Norma just celebrated 62 years of marriage on November 4, 2012. He is survived by his wife, Norma; children: Connie (Bob) Welch, Bev (Larry) Sargent, John (Claudett) Gross, Nancy (Steve) Tessmer, and Barb (John) Lawrence; grandchildren: Brent (Brandy) Renshaw, Lacy (Scooter) Husbenet, Chad (Laurie) Welch, Christy (Matt) Spencer, Mike (Tracy) Sargent, Sheila Gross, John (Melissa) Gross, Kristy (RJ) Munger, Shayna (Andy) Aguirre, Carl Lawrence, Johnny Lawrence, Tammy Yost, Mike and Micheal Lawrence, and Larissa; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters: Edith (George) Shamel and Ruth (Floyd) Myers; brother, Burton Gross; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. John will be greatly missed, along with the Sunday phone calls he always made to everyone. |
