Mr. Porter Fields, Sr. was born December 3,1932 in Damascus, Arkansas the son of Anderson and Jemima Fields. As a young adult, the family relocated to Flint, Michigan where he attended Mt. Nebo M.B. Church. Mr. Fields served in the U.S. Army where he toured in Germany from 1953 to 1954, after which he began employment with General Motors’ Buick Motor Division.
Later Mr. Fields started his own construction company,” Fields Cement Floors” for many years all over Genesee and surrounding counties in Michigan finishing cement until he was unable to work. He enjoyed boating and listening to The Williams Brothers’ DVD. He believed in the Lord and was committed as a praying man who sang with the Bright Stars when he was younger. He recommitted his life to the Lord.
He leaves to cherish sweet memories wife of 65yrs. Mrs. Melvina Fields and to this union 3 children Donna (Boyice), Wayne (Linda) and Porter, Jr who is deceased. Grandchildren, Rodney (Tenessha) Burton, Shannon Burton, Lisa Burton, Tiffany( Mark) Majors, 5 great grandchildren,4 brothers, Milton, Amos, Wade (Ollie),Curtis (Merlene), 2sisters, Annalee and Bethalee (Sam) Walker, sister in law, Joyce Owens, Brother in law, James(Marian) Owens. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son Porter Fields, Jr. parents, Rev. Anderson and Jemima Fields,brother Willie Gene Fields and many nieces.
The family would like to thank family and friends for their prayers and other acts of kindness extended during this time of loss.
