WORTZ, Rev. Vernon Elmo - of Burton, age 85 passed away Sunday, May 12, 2013 at his residence. A Funeral Service will be held at 11AM on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Bethel Assembly of God, 6029 Lapeer Rd, Burton. Pastor Joseph Lindsay and Pastor Ronald Sarbo officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12-3 PM and 5-8 PM at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd. On Thursday, visitation will be at the church from 10 AM until the time of service. Burial with Military Honors will be at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Assembly of God or Center for Gerontology.

Rev. Vernon was born in Flint, Michigan on December 21, 1927, son of the late Jacob and Reva (Olds) Wortz. He married Betty Jane Taylor on June 25, 1955. Rev. Vernon was a member of Bethel Assembly of God. He was an ordained Minister for 52 years. He was also a leader of the Royal Rangers. Rev. Vernon was a teacher for 32 years with the Bentley schools and coached the chess team. He loved bowling and reading.

Rev. Vernon is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty; daughters, Debby (Tom Jr.) Valentine, Linda Wortz, Rebekah (Keith III) Lyon; grandchildren, Jason (Melissa) Valentine , Benjamin (Jessica) Valentine, James Cunningham, Jay Bell, Autumn Lyon, Kara Lyon and Keith Lyon IV; great-granddaughter, Natalie Valentine; sister, Vaneta Bellmore. He was preceded in death by brothers, Harvey Wortz, Lloyd Wortz and Marvin Wortz; sister, Margaret Macainsh.
