WHALEN, Jean Florence (Ranger) - Age 84, of Swartz Creek, passed away Friday, June 3, 2016 at Hale Creek Manor in Hale, Michigan. A prayer service will be held 7PM, Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd, Swartz Creek. Visitation will be held 2PM until time of service on Thursday. Those desiring may make contributions to Hale Creek Manor. Jean was born December 24, 1931 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of the late Francis and Ladeema (Goupil) Ranger. Mrs. Whalen married Leonard D. Whalen on June 20, 1953 in Flint and he preceded her in death on September 5, 1989. She spent most of her life in Swartz Creek, where she and Leonard raised their five children. Jean worked for the Kroger Store for over 25 years. She was an avid bingo player and gardener, and loved crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. Surviving are: children, Karen Hitt, Cindy Basore, Matt Whalen, Laura (Rick) Sharp, Annette (Hal) Stone; grandchildren, Nathan (Joanne) Hitt, Heather (Josh) Jaroniewski, Holly (Michael) Durocher, Christina (Bobby) Wells, Melissa Muschiana, Rob (Lori) Muschiana, Kevin (Meggin) Lee, Matthew (Nora) Whalen, Steven (Sara) Whalen, Anthony Sharp, Ashley Sharp, Jacob Stone, Caleb Stone; great grandchildren, Kendall, Jordan, Lily, Hunter, Stella, Fiona, Harlee, Chloe, Sophia, Audrey, Anthony, Annette Lyn; siblings, Robert (Pat) Ranger, Carl Ranger, Marilyn Lovasz, Suzanne Batterman; best friends Barbara Dickinson and Dona Jellis. She was also preceded in death by siblings Francis Ranger II, Viola Alburtus, Vivian Harris and Jacqueline Allison.
