PENNELL, Herbert Elwood – of Davison, age 85, passed away March 1, 2015 at MediLodge of Grand Blanc. A Funeral Service will be held 1 PM Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison; Pastor Wally Reames officiating. Burial will be in Richfield Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 12-3 and 4-6 PM on Wednesday. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to McLaren Hospice.
Herbert was born in Flint, MI on October 9, 1929, son of the late George and Elsie (Dubay) Pennell. He married Carol J. Strayer on August 7, 1948 and she preceded him in death in 2009. Herbert was a handy man who loved to tinker and could fix just about anything. He loved watching TV, traveling and attending family events. He was a gentle, generous and quiet man, with a sweet yet stubborn way, who also loved a good challenge. Herbert was loved by all who met him and adored by his dog Callie. He retired from GM in 1984 after 30 years of service. He was a self-taught builder and built the family home. Herbert was deeply loved and will be sadly missed.
Herbert is survived by sons, Alan D. (Karen Snear), William M. (Pamela), Curtis K. (Teresa); eight loving grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, David Roy Pennell, George D. Pennell, Jr.
