COWEN (DAGENAIS), BONITA K. “BONNIE” – Of Swartz Creek, age 78, died Thursday, May 28, 2020 at Henry Ford Hospital.
Private funeral service will be held. Private burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Humane Society of Genesee County.
Bonita was born in Flint, Michigan on January 6, 1942, the daughter of the late John and Kathryn (Tibor) Dagenais and was a resident of Genesee County all of her life.
She received a Bachelor's Degree from Northern Michigan University and a Master's Degree from Eastern Michigan University. She was a member of the Michigan Education Association, the National Education Association, Lake Fenton Education Association and St. Matthew Catholic Church. Mrs. Cowen was a teacher at Lake Fenton Middle School since 1973, having also taught in the Carman School District in the early 1960's, at St. Agnes Catholic School and Mott Adult High School. She volunteered at the McLaren Hospitality House and North End Soup Kitchen. Her four grandchildren were Bonnie’s biggest hobby and joy in life. She was their number one fan at all of their sporting events which always first priority in her social calendar.
Surviving are 3 daughters, Melissa K. Cowen, son-in-law, Erwin Friedrich, Michelle A. and husband David Lawrence, Bethany L. Dumanois;
4 grandchildren, Taylor Kay and Brady David Lawrence, Gabrielle Kathryn and Garrett Michael Dumanois;
Brother, Jack and wife Sherry Dagenais;
numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in Marquette, Michigan;
best friends, Sharon Welch, Marilyn Burch and Opal.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John "Jack" and Kathryn "Kay" Dagenais and sister, Debra Dagenais.
