COOK, Elva Elaine – age 88 of Flushing, MI passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Hyde Park assisted Living. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 from 3PM-8PM. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 11AM at Reigle Funeral Home - Sunset Chapel – 5501 W. Pierson Rd. Flushing, MI. Pastor J. P. Duvendeck officiating. Burial will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI. Elva was born June 26, 1927 in Flint, MI to the late Henry and Maude (Hayes) Norman and was raised in Harrison, MI. She married Gerritt C. Cook April 20, 1946. He preceded her in death on August 13, 2010. Elva was a member of Bristol Road Church of Christ. She was a real estate broker and the owner of Cook Realty in Drayton Plains. She moved to Flushing in the late 80’s and also ran for mayor of Flushing in the mid 90’s. Politics were her number one hobby. She was an advocate for the residents of Flushing and was known as the “City Watch Dog.” Elva was an avid gardener, a champion euchre player, and loved dogs. She loved life. She was a vivacious, one of a kind woman. Elva was a brilliant lady, flashy, and loved all things sparkly. Elva is survived by her daughters, Janet (Pat) Duvendeck, Brenda (Scott) Isham, Denise (Gary) Mincek, Lorna Shafer, and Beth (Bud) Williams; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and several other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerritt C. Cook; and eldest daughter, Gail Boyd Mills. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Hyde Park Assisted Living for all of their care and compassion during Elva’s stay there.
