DUNKLEE, Eldon L. “Rusty-Red” – of Montrose, age 84, died Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Hurley Medical Center in Flint. Funeral services will be held 11AM Friday, July 13, 2018 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Pastor Hal Phillips officiating. Private Burial in Montrose Township Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday from 1PM until 9PM and Friday from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM. Memorial contributions may be made to Montrose United Methodist Church or the Montrose Lion’s Club.
Eldon was born May 16, 1934 in Flint, Michigan to Roy and Violet (Hulquist) Dunklee. He graduated from Montrose High School where he earned his varsity letter in football, basketball and baseball. Eldon married Donna Cummings on December 19, 1952 and together they had 6 children. He was self-employed, owning and operating Montrose Snack Shop for 25 years. Eldon also owned a local tax and insurance service for many years.
Eldon was very active in the Montrose community. He served on the Montrose City Council for several years and was also elected two multiple terms as City Mayor He was a dedicated member of the Montrose Lion’s Club and had also served as District Governor. Eldon and his wife, Donna spent many years as camp counselors for Camp Quality, a camp for children with terminal illness. Eldon loved fishing and sports. He coached little league baseball and enjoyed officiating high school sports. Eldon played baseball and softball until he was 83 years old.
Surviving are: Wife of 65 years, Donna Dunklee; Children: Robert (Margie) Dunklee of Arizona, Keith (Sue) Dunklee of Montrose, Michael (Robin) Dunklee of Mt. Morris, Penny (Ron) Lewis of Montrose, Leann (Alan) Robinson of Sicily, Italy, and Rocky Dunklee of Montrose; Many grandchildren, and great grandchildren; Siblings: Charlotte (Jerry) Needham of Clio, and Jerry (Tedra) Dunklee of Connecticut; Several nieces and nephews. Eldon was preceded in death by his father, Roy Dunklee; Mother, Violet Flemming; Brothers, Roy and Donald Dunklee.
