CASTLE, John W. Jr. – Of Grand Blanc, age 90, died Monday, January 5, 2015 at McLaren-Flint.
Funeral service will be held at 12 noon Friday, January 9, 2015
at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Hal Phillips officiating.
Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery.
Visitation 10 a.m. Friday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
John was born in Flint, Michigan on September 8, 1924, to his parents, John W. and Emily Castle.
He was raised in Flint and attended Flint Northern High School.
John enlisted in the Air Force during World War II and was stationed primarily in India. After the war ended John returned to Flint and attended apprentice school.
He became a Tool, Jig and Fixture Repairman for Chevrolet Motor Division. He worked on Chevrolet Avenue in the Flint complex. During his employment at Chevrolet, John married Gloria, his wife of 66 years and raised a family in the Clio area.
John had three children, Linda of Spring Lake, Michigan,
Gregg of Burton, Michigan and Scott of Clio, Michigan.
After retirement from Chevrolet John and Gloria moved to Bass Lake in National City, Michigan near Tawas. During this time John enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing.
His neighbors at this time were his sister, Virginia Norton, (now deceased) and his brother, Clarence Castle of Grand Blanc.
In addition to Gloria and his three children, John is succeeded by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
