Szumlinski, Daniel R. – of Montrose, age 80, died Thursday, February 23, 2017, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, February 25, 2017, at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Chaplain Todd Regester officiating. Final interment in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Friday from 3-8 PM and on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the family or the Disabled American Vets.
Daniel was born June 9, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Walter and Frances (Pigula) Szumlinski. He married Carol Bechberger on December 25, 1954, in Roseville, Michigan. Daniel was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of the Montrose American Legion Post # 367. He owned and operated Danny's Standard Service in Troy for several years and also retired from General Motors in 1995.
Surviving are: His wife of 62 years, Carol; Children: Catherine Baade of Aztec, NM., Cynthia Farmer of Warren, MI., Kimberly Bohman of Aztec, NM., Steven Szumlinski of Aztec, NM., Patricia Kadlec of Sterling Heights, MI., Debra Szumlinski of Arlington, VA., and Laura Smothers of Detroit; 19 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren and 1 on the way that will be named after Daniel.
