RICHARDS, DARLENE FAY - Of Flint, age 83, a beloved mother, widow, grandmother and great-grandmother and special friend to many, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2025.
Darlene was born in Clare, Michigan on August 19, 1941, the daughter of Mylo and Amanda Jenereaul.
She was a graduate of Northern High School, The University of Michigan and Oakland University, where she received her Master’s Degree in Special Education. She was a special education teacher in the Kearsley School District for over 30 years. She also tutored many wonderful children along the way, and many were still a part of her life as adults.
Beyond her career, she most loved her family. She enjoyed watching her children participate in sporting events, camping in the summer and anything that involved family time and making memories. In the later years, my parents enjoyed traveling to Europe and beyond.
Darlene attended The Salvation Army Church as an active member for over 60 years.
Darlene was united in marriage to her loving husband, Charles Richards on May 13, 1961. Together they built a loving and nurturing home for their children, Kim and Shawn, who were her pride and joy.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Kim (John) Gatz;
son, Shawn (Denise) Richards;
grandsons, Dane Richards and Jeremy (Jen) Gatz;
great-grandchildren, Mya, Hudson, Weston, Lyla, Rilynn, Lily and Sophia;
special friend, Jean Gatz.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles; her mother, Amanda Skurka; stepfather, Arthur Skurka; mother-in-law, Edna Richards and father-in-law, Charles Richards.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2025
at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Major Kathy Hellstrom officiating.
Entombment at Flint Memorial Park.
Contributions may be made to The Salvation Army.
Visitation 1p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2025 and 12 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2025 until the time of the service at the funeral home.
