HAMMEL, Howard C. – Of Ann Arbor, formerly of Grand Blanc, age 95, died Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Hillside Terrace in Ann Arbor.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Minister Kyle Rodgers officiating.
Burial in Crestwood Cemetery with Military Honors under the auspices of VFW Chevrolet Motor Post #3087.
Visitation 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to The Red Cross.
Howard was born in Wyanette Township, Minnesota on January 14, 1923, the son of the late Charles E. and Nannie Elizabeth (Dahlburg) Hammel.
On November 5 1950, he married Ruth G. Goodrich.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 3 years.
Mr. Hammel retired from GM, after 42 years of service.
Surviving are 3 children, Steven Hammel and Holly of Midland, Texas,
Terry Blackney of Flint,
Gale O’Reilly of Ann Arbor;
grandchildren, Derek Thomas, Ryan and Kyle Blackney,
Amanda (Bob) Stricklen and
Robert, Jr. (Alyssa) O’Reilly;
great-grandchildren, Fiona O’Reilly, Parker, Samantha and Robert Owen III Stricklen.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Hammel; son-in-law, Richard Blackney; sisters, Helen Lane and Norma Mercier; brothers, Roger and Max Hammel.
