WHITE, Georgene, Ruth (Pittsley) - Age 87 of Swartz Creek and Flint passed away on April 16, 2013. Georgene was born in Flint and lived her entire life in the central Michigan community.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at 2:30 PM at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Friends and relatives are welcome to attend both the service and visitation to be held prior to the service beginning at Noon. A private interment will follow the service on Monday at the family plot at the Ferris Township Cemetery in Montcalm County.
Georgene graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1943 and from the University of Michigan School of Nursing in July 1947. She married Robert C. White, also of Flint, in July 1945. She belonged to the U of M Nurses' Alumnus Association, the Scouts on Stamps Society INternational (SOSSI), Order of the Eastern Star, El Said Court No. 28, Ladies Oriental SHrine of NOrth America (LOSNA) committed to supporting the Shrine Hospitals for Children and was a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church.
Georgene will be especially remembered for her devotion to her family and for raising her for boys and daughter. She could always be counted on to step forward as a youth volunteer when one was needed as a Cub Scout mom and Den Leader. To her children it seemed that there was always a noisy gathering of young people at their house. She never grew tired of being mom and continued to be there for all of them even after all had grown up and were out on their own.
Georgene is survived by her children, Robert White, Douglas White and Linda Crandall; her sister, Betty Holen of Burt Lake; sister-in-law, Marilyn Pittsley of Davison; ten grandchildren, Robert White, Maureen Love, Douglas White, James White, Laura White, Sarah Conklin, Tom White, Adam White, Lisa Crandall and Jeff Taylor; and ten great-grandchildren. Mrs. White was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Robert C. White; two sons, J. Richard and Donald E White and grandson, Alex White.
The family would like to thank the many friends and neighbors who helped her maintain an independent lifestyle right to the end and most especially the support of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church community. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to Shrines Hospitals for Children (www.shrinershospitalforchildren.org) would be greatly appreciated.
