MARX, Lawrence E., of Flint, MI age 96 passed away on May 12, 2018. Lawrence and his wife Connie had been married for 63 years. He retired from the United States Air Force with the rank of Master Sargent. During WWII, he was based on Attu with the 11th Air Force, Air Wing 4, 77th Bomber Squadron. He was shot down bombing Paramushiro Harbor, Japan, sent to Russia and held until February 1944. He was one of the first 51 of 291 to escape through Iran to Tunisia, then home. In addition to his wife, he leaves 2 brothers, 2 sisters, 6 children (2 daughters, 4 sons), 9 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. Visitation will be held Monday, May 21, 2018 from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E. Hill Rd., Grand Blanc. A Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 22, 2018 with one hour of visitation prior to the Mass at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 2415 Bagley St, Flint, MI, with Father Thomas Firestone celebrating. Burial will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Salvation Army Bed and Bread Club, St. John Vianney School or Powers Catholic High School.
