Mary Magdelen Doerr (Hart). – passed away on Monday, November 25, 2013 at WellSpring Lutheran Home in Frankenmuth. She was 91 years of age. Mary was born on October 10, 1922 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late William P. and Katherine (Schrems) Hart. She married Carl J. Doerr on June 11, 1945. He preceded her in death in 1997.
Leaving behind to cherish her memory are 9 sons and 2 daughters; Joe (Joann) Doerr of Swartz Creek, Teresa Herzog of Frankenmuth, Peter (Kay) Doerr of Flint, Mary Anne (Al) Naegele of Birch Run, John (Kim) Doerr of Goodrich, Mark Doerr of Flushing, George (Dede) Doerr of Clarkston, Matthew Doerr of Burton, Paul (Patti) Doerr of Montrose, Jerome (Laura) Doerr of Birch Run, Gregory (Kris) Doerr of Clio; 27 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Catherine (Frank) Keenan; sisters in law, Eleanor Hart, Margaret Hart, Alice Hart, Frances Doerr; many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by; 8 brothers, Thomas (Ernestine), Maurice (Sarah), Timothy, William (Marjory), Luke (Joyce), Francis, Bernard (Mary Ruth), Michael Leo; 1 sister, Lucille (William) Mattes; sister in law, Agnes (Michael) Benkert; brothers in law Herbert (Beatrice) Doerr, Henry Doerr, Robert (Alice) Doerr; granddaughter, Amanda Doerr; son in law, Marv Herzog.
Mary was a lifelong member of the Catholic faith and a founding member of Saints Charles and Helena Catholic Church in Clio, as well as Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Montrose. She was a farmer all her life, spending her later years tending to dozens of plants in her home. Mary was an expert seamstress, making handmade quilts for each of her children and comforters for many of her grandchildren. She enjoyed polka dancing with Carl and was a writer for the Polka News for almost 25 years. Mary published a book about her ancestors who were early settlers of James Township. She enjoyed many trips throughout the United States, visiting all but two of the Presidential Libraries, as well as touring Ireland, the Scandinavian countries, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. On tours to Italy, Mary had the privilege of seeing Pope John Paul II in 1983, Pope Benedict in 2005 as well as attending Mass at the Vatican.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11AM, Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Saints Charles and Helena Catholic Church in Clio. Fr. Bob McGraw and Fr. John Ederer officiating. Friends may call at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home - 503 N. Mill St. In Clio on Friday from 2PM until 8PM. A Rosary will be prayed by Fr. Jerry Ploof at 7PM. Mary will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 10AM until the time of Mass at 11AM. Burial will follow at 11AM Monday, December 2, 2013 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Saginaw, with graveside services conducted by Fr. John Ederer. Memorial Contributions may be made to Saints Charles and Helena Catholic Church.
