JONES, Oral Leonard, Jr. – of Davison, MI, age 89, passed away Friday, August 2, 2019. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423. Interment immediately following the service in Sunset Hills Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 3-8 PM Monday, August 5, 2019 and 10-11 AM Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Davison American Legion Post #267.
Leonard was born in Flint, MI on February 17, 1930, son of the late Oral Leonard Jones, Sr. and Mollie (Caldwell) Jones. He was a graduate of Central High School Class of 1949. Leonard proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1947-1950 and the U.S. Marine Corps. from 1950-1953. He was a member and served as historian of the Davison American Legion Post #267. Leonard married Judith Lee Cross on October 2, 1974 and she preceded him in death on December 1, 2017. He retired from General Motors in 2006 after more than 35 years of service. Leonard was also the owner and operator of Brookwood Shell Station in Davison and was a former Genesee County Sherriff. He enjoyed watching Detroit Tigers baseball and Michigan State University games. Leonard loved spending time with his family and he will be greatly missed.
Leonard is survived by 7 children, Sandra Powell, Julie (Dennis) Beaver, Steven (Valrie) Jones, Amy (Charles) Lewis, Amanda Jones, Mollie (Duane Tackabury) Jones and Andrew (Lisa) Jones; 20 grandchildren, Roger, Justin, Monica, Stephanie, Tim, Devin, Emalie, Katie, Jacqlyn, Madison, Kyle, Kamryn, Allyson, Brady, Cory, Jake, Katelyne, Connor, Caleb and Kara; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Don (Becky) Jones; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Navarre-Jones; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Jones and infant brother, Charles Jones.
