HANES, Gordon G., Sr. – Of Flint, age 88, died Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
Funeral service and Military Honors will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 13, 2014 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Visitation 12-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Gordon was born in Flint, Michigan on April 17, 1926, the son of Fred and Lozina (Reed) Hanes.
He served in the US Navy during World War II, participating in the invasion of Leyte, Luzon, Lingan Gulf, Iwojima and Okinawa.
Mr. Hanes was employed by Applegate Chevrolet for 38 years, retiring in 1988.
Surviving are children, Deborah and husband Steve Frick, Gordon, Jr., Christopher and wife Trina;
seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters.
