MCLEARN, Joseph L. - Of Flint, age 73, died Friday, May 8, 2015
at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Memorial Service will be held 11am Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Deacon John Sundwick officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to FOMA (Friends of Modern Art) Film Series, c/o the Flint Institute of Arts, 1120 Kearsley Street, Flint, MI 48503.
Visitation 4-8pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
Joseph was born in Flint on March 12, 1942, and was a resident of Flint all his life. On July 10, 1989, he married Ruth MacLean. Joe was employed with General Motors Metal Fab as a Tool and Die maker, a sales representative at Shively Brothers and retired from Beecher Public Schools (Special Education). Joe loved nature and his cabin up North. He was an excellent photographer and enjoyed building and restoring wooden canoes.
Joe graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Wayne State University and a Masters in Special Education from Saginaw Valley State University.
Surviving are wife, Ruth;
children, Mary Jo (Al) Mansour, Robert McLearn and Catherine (Chad) Jando;
step-son Matthew MacLean;
grandchildren, Alexandra, Caroline, Elizabeth, Katherine, Julia, Chloe, Carson, Joseph, Madison, Gage, Tanner and Max;
mother, Mary McLearn;
sister, Betsy Carter; brother, Kevin McLearn.
and mother of his children, Carol Hartley;
his good friends, Dick Walrath and Mike Reed.
He was preceded in death by his father, Justin McLearn, his good friend, Ralph Kohn.
