ROGERS, Robert Doyle – Of Flint, age 88, died Saturday, March 10, 2012 at MediLodge in Montrose. Funeral service will be held at 12 noon Monday, March 12, 2012 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Steve July officiating. Burial in Crestwood Cemetery with a military service under the auspices of the Marine Corps League Flint Detachment #155 Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shultz Lewis Child and Family Services, Cancer Research or to Otisville Church of Christ for Haitians Children’s Home. Visitation 4- 8 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m. Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Mr. Rogers was born in Estill Springs, Tennessee on October 7, 1923, son of the Late John Henry and Verna Mae (Smith) Rogers. He served his country in the U.S. Navy.
On April 30, 1949 he married Martha Joyce Moseley. He was a member of Carpenter Road Church of Christ. He was a loving son, husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. Mr. Rogers retired from Grand Trunk Railroad. Surviving are children, Sharon A. Mitchell,
Robert L. Rogers, Phyllis L. July, Michael L. Rogers and Nelson A. Rogers; four brothers, John, William, Frank and Dossett Rogers; one sister, Martha E. Stewart; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife, Martha Joyce Rogers and sister, Minta Clejo.
