HEWITT, John – of Burton, age 96, passed away January 31, 2016 at Genesys Health Park. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Friday, February 5, 2016 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. Burial, with Military Honors will be in West Vienna Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-6 PM Wednesday and Thursday. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
John was born in Vienna Twp., MI on February 15, 1919, son of the late Wesley and Bertha (Bacon) Hewitt. John proudly served his country with the U.S. Army. He married Betty Ann Alexander in Ohio on March 14, 1940 and they would have been married for 76 years in March. John loved to hunt and fish up north. John and his wife were members of the Gold Wing and Retreads Motorcycle Clubs. He enjoyed camping and was a member of the American Legion. John worked for Tool and Die Engine before retiring.
John is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Glen (Barb) Hewitt of Cape Coral, FL, Barb Deggendorf of Burton and Cheryl Herfurth of Burton; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his son, Gerald in 2008; seven brothers and sisters
