BATTISTE, Evelyn Louise (nee Hatt) - age 86, died Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Monday, April 18 at First Presbyterian Church 746 S. Saginaw St., Flint, MI with Reverend Paul Ytterock officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation for Evelyn will be at Brown Funeral Home 1480 E. Hill Rd., Grand Blanc, MI from 1 to 7pm Sunday and at First Presbyterian Church on Monday from 11am until the time of the service. Evelyn Battiste was born in Lansing, Michigan to Francis and Dora Hatt on July 23, 1929 and lived there until her marriage to Robert L. Battiste then she moved with him to Flint, Michigan. They met while both were attending college at Michigan State University and working at Johnson’s Rustic Resort in Prudenville, Michigan. Evelyn was a devoted mother, homeroom mother, P.T.A. member at Pierce Community School, Den Mother and Scout Leader, choir mother, Director of Education and Deacon at First Presbyterian Church, President and member of Church Women United, C.A.R.I.H. advocate, member of A.B.W.A.-Te-Wan-A-Go-Ing Chapter, Quota Club, Club Clarendon and Bridge Club. Evelyn was also a business partner and long time cashier at the Temple Dining Room. Evelyn leaves to cherish in their memories her sister, Eileen Hatt; children, Lawrence Battiste, Robert Battiste, Lynn Berezny (Dan), Renee’ Goss (Jay) and Paul Battiste; grandchildren Lawrence Battiste Jr. (April), Christine O’Brien (Tom), Benjamin Cripps (Alexa), Katherine Lawson (Kyle), Alexander Cripps (Jackie), Micaela Battiste, Briana Battiste, Michael Berezny (Erica), Erin Czerwinski (Nicholas), Jeremy Goss (Lindsay), Zackary Goss and Charleigh Owens-Battiste. She also leaves 11 great-grandchildren and the cherished nieces and nephews through her union with Robert L. Battiste. She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse and daughter-in-law, Carol I. Battiste. The family would like to thank the caring staff of Heritage Manor, the outstanding staff of Hurley Medical Center and a special thank you to Dr. Joshua Newblatt, DO. Mother enjoyed a longer life with their care. If desired contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Children’s Ministry, The Music and Fine Arts Ministry or a charity of your choice. |
