Phrona Claudia Cottrell came into this world on the same sort of day: July 10, 1934. Her Dad, Frank single handedly raised her along with 2 sisters and 1 brother (all are deceased). Mom attended and graduated from Pinconning High School in 1952. At the age of 14, she met a shy, freckle faced, red headed boy, named Ralph Compton. Phrona married Ralph at the age of 18. They got married in the dead of winter and enjoyed 62 &1/2 years of marriage. Ralph and Phrona raised five children, Ralph (Jennifer) Compton, Denise Daniel (David Smith) Roberta Compton, Malinda (Duane) Burnash and Perry Compton (Michael Freeman). They have 7 precious grandchildren: Brett (Jessica) Daniel, Jennifer Daniel (Amber), Amy Bujakl, Dustin (Samantha) Peterson, Curtis (Alesha) Burnash, Morgan Burnash, Alexandra Burnash and 6 adoring great grandchildren: Carson and Alyssa Daniel, Elliot Burnash, McKenzie Peterson, and Bryce and Elec Bukakl. Mom’s working career spanned from 1952 to 1988. She worked at Fisher One in Cut & Sew. She then transferred to Ternstedt, a GM plant and left once they started raising a family. She was employed at Holy Rosary High School as a custodian. In 1970, Mom went to work at the Genesee Valley Mall. She was employed in the Ground Maintenance department. She became a Supervisor over this same department and was known to have plowed the mall parking lots during snow storms. She had a great work ethic. All of us kids know how to clean; that’s for sure! Mom knew how to put on a party and she would never ever let your beer glass go empty. She loved to dance with Ralph and everyone would clear the floor just to watch the two of them dance. And…Boy oh boy, could Mom sew! She made our outfits, clothes for our Barbie dolls and baby dolls. She even made our Halloween costumes, choir uniforms, flower girl dresses. Mom was also a quilter and all of us have blankets that she made. There wasn’t anything that she couldn’t sew. Ma cooked and canned and baked and barbequed. If Dad picked it from the garden, Mom canned it and we ate it in the winter. Mom and Dad spent winters in Zephyrhills, Florida listening to country music and eating short cake. Summers were spent on beautiful Houghton Lake for some 25 years. They camped and saw the waters of Lake Superior for some 60 years, eating smoked fish, Faygo orange pop and limburger sandwiches. Home was wherever they set their hat and the last place was here in Burton, Michigan. Mom and Dad loved people. You were invited in and before you knew it you were sitting down to dinner. She was a loyal patriate and loved red, white and blue. She was the happiest when she and Dad were together. We know that our time here is borrowed, limited and precious. All we have is what we came with and what we will leave with is our spirit; our soul. We’re really, really gonna miss her but know she is with God and the angels and saints. We wished you could have met her.
Romans 8:18
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed to us.
