SMITHINGELL, Daniel – Of Davison, age 67, died Monday, November 20, 2017 in Roscommon.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 25, 2017 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 8192 Davison Road, Davison, Dr. Julianne Princinsky officiating.
Cremation will take place following the service.
Those desiring may make contributions to Special Olympics or charity/church of one's choice.
Visitation 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road and 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service at church.
A Rosary will be prayed 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Daniel was born in Flint, Michigan on January 11, 1950, the son of Ann and Glen Smithingell. He graduated from Flint Hamady High School and went to Detroit Business College. Dan was a great man, and a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend of all. He served our country in the Vietnam War and received the Purple Heart. Dan married Wanda (Nye) Nelson on October 20, 2012 in Lake City, Michigan. He enjoyed bus trips and his yearly Black Lake golf outing. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion and loud umpire that made a few folks mad behind the home plate. Mr. Smithingell was employed by GM and AC Spark Plug Division-Delphi, retiring with 34 years of service, and was a member of UAW Local #651. He was still active in the Retiree Chapter.
Dan leaves behind his wife, Wanda;
daughters, DeAnah (Mark) and Lindsay (Brent);
sons, Daniel, Jacob and Zachery (Hayley);
grandkids, Alexys, Ava Rae, Zachary, Alexander, Katelin, Jacob, Alexis and Jared;
sister-in-law, Christine (Ken);
niece, Angie(Chris) and her son, Ashton;
brothers, David (Maureen), Tony (Mary) and Joe (Robin);
wife’s side, step-sons, Thomas (Krista) and Timothy (Krista).
