OSTRANDER, Betty Ruth - Age 91, of Fenton, died Friday, June 20, 2014. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Thursday, June 26, 2014 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Fr. Dwight Ezop celebrant. Burial in St. John Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton Wednesday from 4-8 PM and at church Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass. A vigil service will be held at the funeral home Wednesday at 7:00 PM.

Betty was born March 8, 1923 in Flint, the seventh of eleven children, born to Harvey and Gaynell (Husted) Hook. She graduated from St. Michael Catholic High School in 1942 and that year went to work at AC Spark Plug in Flint, where she worked for 15 years building bomb sites for the Allied Bombers. In 1953, Betty married Donald C. Ostrander in Flint and together they raised a family of eleven children. Betty was a loving and devoted mother who would do anything for the sake of her children. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending happy times with her family. Betty enjoyed cooking, gardening, crafts, knitting, crochet, sewing, and upholstering furniture. Her faith was also important to her. She was a member of St. Luke Altar Society in Flint, and later taught in the Religious Education Program at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Fenton. She enjoyed the many friendships formed as a member of Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority and the Lake Fenton Athletic Booster.

Surviving are: 10 children, Daniel and wife Toni Graham, Thomas Ostrander, Terry Ostrander, David and wife Norwati Ostrander, Gary and wife Melinda Ostrander, Nancy Waller, Dennis and wife Shannon Ostrander, Douglas and wife Dineen Ostrander, Steven Ostrander and Kim Scammell, and D. Richard and wife Tanya Ostrander; 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald C.
