James "Jim" J. Stasa
Age 78 of Swartz Creek passed away peacefully surrounded at home by his loving family.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 am Friday, June 9, 2017 at St. Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Michael O'Brien officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Thursday from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a rosary prayed at 7pm.
Jim was born April 21 in Saint Johns, the son of Joseph and Pauline (Smetka) Stasa.
His favorite past time was playing his accordion for family, friends and festivals and of course nursing homes and retirement centers. Jim was inducted into the Michigan Polka Hall of Fame in October 2015. He loved driving his John Deere and his Suzuki which he had nicknamed "Sammy" for Rock Crawling Events in Utah. Jim also loved playing Euchre too but most of all he loved his family because his children, grandkids and great-grandkids brought joy to his life that couldn't be matched.
He married Mary "Muggs" Delaney in January of 1959. He retired from GM after 29 years of service.
He will be tenderly and dearly missed by his wife Mary; son David (Sue) Stasa, daughters Connie (Tom) O'Brien, Denise Stasa and Shawn O'Grady; grandchildren Jennifer (Sylvester) Cole, Nichole (Matt) Rogers, Jessica (Joe) Morris, Jackie and April Stasa, and Kelly and Jonathon O'Grady; great-grandchildren "Big" Grant, Deacon, Camron, "Little" Grant, Brady and Max; sisters Millie Horak and Helen Perry; many, many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
He was predeceased by his brothers Frank (Alice) Stasa and Jerry Stasa; sisters Mary (Frank) Samson and Hedy (Vern) Wagner.
Memorial contributions are suggested to WOES Radio of Ovid Elsie or McLaren Lapeer Hospice.
In addition to harps being played in Heaven, there is now his accordion music too.
