Harold "Duane" Sprague, age 62 of Durand passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, June 21, 2019 surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, 501 N. Saginaw Street, Durand, MI. 48429. Pastor Jerry Walden will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, June 24, 2019 from 2-4:00 and 6-8:00 PM as well as one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
Duane was born March 14, 1957 in Durand, Michigan to Harold “Bill” and Mary Ann “Tookie” (Curreli) Sprague. He attended and graduated from Durand High School in 1975. He married Janice Robertson on July 21, 1979. Together they raised three children on their farm in Durand. Duane worked for General Motors, retiring after 28 years. But his heart was always in farming. He worked hard to be a responsible farmer and valued the farm becoming MAEAP verified. For many years he hosted the annual 4th of July Pig Roast on his family farm. He enjoyed playing euchre and dice with his family and friends as well as attending breakfast with the guys at the Durand Sportsman Club. Becoming a Grandpa this past year meant the world to him. Duane’s most valued possessions were his family and his farm. He instilled a strong work ethic in all his children, each of them following in his footsteps; cultivating not only the soil but also the friendships they’ve made throughout life. The family of Duane extends their deepest appreciation for all the love, support, phone calls, well wishes and help on the farm throughout the past two years.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 40 years; Janice, his children; Adam Sprague, Joseph (Jessika Bayliss), Jamie (Brett) Hausfelder, his grandchildren; Eleanor Hausfelder, Hank Sprague and Henry Sprague, his brother; William (Barbara) Sprague of Greenville, SC, his sisters; Linda Terpening of Port Charlotte, FL, Mary (Daniel) Plumley of Dothan, AL, Kathy (Rick) Clements of Wasilla, AK, and C.J. (Eric) Koan of Wasilla, AK, his sisters-in-law; Terry Tynes of Flint, MI, Stephanie (John) Muston of Durand, MI, Myra Gullett of Flint, MI, and Christine Cook of Flint, MI, his constant companion; Penny the dog, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Duane was predeceased by his parents; Harold Leroy and Mary Ann Sprague, his mother-in-law; Rosalie Robertson, his brothers-in-law; Norman Terpening and Michael Gullett.
