BARR, Russell R. Jr. – of Whitehouse, OH, age 94, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Whitehouse Country Manor in Whitehouse, OH. Funeral services will be held at 1PM Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Reverend Robert Barr officiating. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11AM until the time of service at 1PM. Contributions may be made to the American Red Cross or the Flint Genealogical Society.
Russell was born in Toledo, OH on March 10, 1920 to the late Russell Sr. and Flora (White) Barr. He resided in the Flint area most of his life and in Toledo in his youth. Russell graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1939. He served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII. Russell married Ruth Feller on October 26, 1941 in Flint. She preceded him in death on August 28, 2013. Mr. Barr retired from E. I. Dupont with over 35 years seniority and was the owner of R. Barr Printing. He was a member of the Clio American Legion Post #158, Independent Order of the Foresters, Court Street Methodist and Faith Methodist Church.
He was a volunteer with a number of community organizations Crossroads Village and the Red Cross. In 1990, Russ and Ruth were honored as "Volunteers of the Year" and were presented with a beautiful plaque by Mayor Matt Collier of Flint.
Surviving are: three sons, Russell (Dorothea) Barr III, Robert (Patricia) Barr and David (Sue) Barr; two grandchildren; Timothy and Rebekah; sister-in-law, Arlene (Ralph) Cook; two nieces; three nephews. He was preceded in death by: sister, Doris Geiger (George); sister-in-law, Marie (Kenneth) Burgess. Please sign our guest book or share an online condolence with the family at www.oguinnfh.com.
