Donald Frederick Shenk, age 67 of Durand, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Memorial Healthcare after suffering a massive heart attack. A memorial service to honor Don's life will take place on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 11am at the Durand VFW, 923 N. Saginaw St. Durand, MI 48429.
Donald was born on April 26, 1949 in Owosso, Michigan to the late Donald Jr. and Arola Mae (Maurer) Shenk. He graduated from Durand High School in the class of 1967 and served his country faithfully in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1970 during the Vietnam era. On June 15, 1972 he married Anne Christine Hansen at Grace Lutheran Church in Durand. Don spent 30 years at General Motors, retiring in 2006. Don was an avid pilot, and belonged to the Michigan Ultralite Association.
Don is survived by his wife of 44 years, Anne, his son, Kristopher Donald (Ashlee) Shenk, daughter, Julie Shenk-Sutherland, his two granddaughters; Sophia and Cecelia Sutherland and his sister, Jane (Jerry) Mrakava.
He was predeceased by his parents.
