James A. Greenlee of Bad Axe, age 73, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at McLaren Thumb Region in Bad Axe, following a lingering illness. Jim was born February 3, 1946 in Pontiac, the son of the late George A. and Mary L. (Greene) Greenlee and was president of his 1963 Lapeer High School graduating class. Jim worked for Detroit Edison as a lineman before being drafted into the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam War. He was honorably discharged in 1968 after serving two years. He then returned to Detroit Edison as a lineman, moved to Cass City in 1990 as a field foreman, and retired in 2004. In his earlier years, Jim was a member of the Jaycees and served on the zoning board in Cass City. He especially loved the holidays and decorating for them. Jim also enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, painting, stained glass and woodworking, and MSU football.
Jim is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Kimberlee & Donald Schadd of Elkton, Julee & Jeff Dillon of Auburn; four grandchildren, Whitnee Essenmacher and her husband, Travis, of Lansing, Jaydee Dillon of Auburn, Drew Dillon of Auburn, Sara Schadd of Elkton; siblings, William Greenlee and his wife, Connie of Arizona, Anne Whiteman of Arkansas; the mother of his children, Sue Ellen Greenlee; many nieces and nephews; and his black lab, D.O.G.
In keeping with Jim’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Michele Hile officiating. Military honors, under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the Caro American Legion Post #7 will follow the service. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project.
