Shirley J. Holler
Age 93 of Owosso passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017 at the Owosso Owl's Nest in Owosso.
Funeral services will be held 12noon Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Nelson-House Funeral Homes-Owosso Chapel with Pastor Ray Strawser officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 2pm to 8pm and on Saturday from 11am until the time of service.
Shirley was born July 27, 1924 in Owosso, the daughter of Francis Leo and Bernice (Root) Ballou Yerian.
She was a graduate of Owosso High School, class of 1942.
Shirley married Alfred E. Holler in Owosso on December 20, 1947.
She was a homemaker and spent her life taking care of her family. During World War II times, she worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" at A.G. Redmond Company.
Shirley enjoyed cooking, baking and crocheting and she entered a lot of her baked goods and her crocheted items at the Shiawassee County Fair where she won two gold ribbons and many blue ribbons. Most of all she loved her family and caring for them was most important to her. Shirley looked forward to dancing with her husband at the ZCBJ Hall and she was an avid Michigan football fan. She was a volunteer with the Bryant School PTA and served as a room mother. Shirley also volunteered with the Girl Scouts and the Cub Scouts.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years Alfred; children Diane (Tom) Piercy, Dan (Becky) Holler, Debbie (John) Smith and Gary Watson; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sister-in-law Maxine Ballou; and many other loving family and friends.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents; her brother Raymond Ballou; her sister Doris Stull and her lifelong friend "twin" Evelyn "Butch" Hutchings.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Owosso VFW Post 9455 or to the family.
