URCHYK, Richard – of Davison, formally of Metamora, age 68, passed away August 17, 2016 at his home. A Funeral Liturgy will be held 4 PM Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison; Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski officiating. Visitation will be 12-3 & 5-8 PM Saturday and 2-4 PM on Sunday. Cremation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Tumor Foundation to help family friend Kelly Eastman’s three year old son Hudson with his battle against neurofibromatosis. Richard was born in Flint, MI on January 16, 1948, son of the late Stanley and Margaret (O’Hara) Urchyk. He graduated from Beecher High School in 1966 and continued his education at Ferris State University earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. In 1985 Rick started Joint Video Ventures, Inc., which successfully transitioned from VHS movie rentals in party stores and gas stations to DVD rentals in grocery stores in rural areas of seven states. Rick enjoyed harness horse racing and gambling at casinos.
Richard is survived by his wife of 38 years, Gail; daughters, Christine (Vince) Messina, Lindsay Urchyk (fiancé, Gavin Brown); brother, James (Mary) Urchyk; sister, Carol (Ken) Ray; step-mother, Elizabeth Urchyk; father-in law and mother-in-law, John and Evelyn Dick; grandchildren, Avery, Emerson and Elliot Messina; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Sheree and Larry Huntoon, Patricia and Robert Skinner, John and Nancy Dick, Mari Frances and Keith Justus, Tom and Angie Dick; aunt and uncle, Ed and Charlene O’Hara; nieces and nephews, Heidi (Joe) Holicki, Jennifer Villareal, Ken (Sue) Ray III, Krista Meili, Josh (Mandy) Huntoon, Brad (Rachel) Dick, Tim (Christine) Brooks, Michael (Becca) Huntoon, Kelli Skinner, Michelle Dick (fiancé, Mike Clark), Kristi Skinner, Jersey Dick, Jagger Dick, Madison Justus; many cousins, great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Margaret.
