Devoted husband and father, passed away Friday, September 28, 2012, in Flint, Michigan at age 76. John was born at home in Detroit, Michigan on April 28, 1936, to Ray and Loretta (Fanning) Egloff. As a boy, John was active in sports, playing soccer in Detroit and, later, football for St. Francis De Sales and Saginaw Arthur Hill. John served as a surveyor with the U.S. Army Field Artillery. He earned B.S. and M.A. degrees from Eastern Michigan University and his Ph.D. degree from Michigan State University. John dedicated his life’s work to education and helping others navigate life’s challenges. John was a teacher, counselor, director of personnel and high school principal, most recently of Clio and Swartz Creek School Districts. After he retired, he continued to assist others by providing counseling for the elderly.
John married his college sweetheart, Carol Louise (Jennings) Egloff, on June 24, 1960. John was an avid reader and gardener and an excellent cook; he enjoyed golf, travel, films and the symphony. Surviving are wife, Carol; daughter, Dr. Ann Marie Egloff and husband, Pedro Robredo of Pittsburgh, PA and Raleigh, NC; daughter, Janet (Egloff) Wazeter and husband, Dr. David Wazeter of Camp Hill, PA; son, Robert J. Egloff of Hampton, VA; three grandchildren, Ellis Wazeter and Julia Wazeter, both of Camp Hill, PA; Maria Egloff of Kalamazoo, MI; sister Carole (Egloff) Kennelly of Saginaw, MI; cousin JoAn Paganette of New York City; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Robert R. Egloff and Jeanette (Egloff) Eickholt.
Burial service will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery pavilion at 12:30 pm, Monday, October 1, 2012, Deacon Anthony Verdun presiding. Family will welcome visitors at Sharp Funeral Home, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek 5-7 pm Sunday, September 30, 2012. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Flint Institute of Arts, the Flint Symphony Orchestra or a charity of their choice.
