Michael S. Jones

Born: 11/11/1960
Died: 2/12/2020
Age: 59
Community: Flushing, MI

Beloved husband, father, and grandfather Michael Jones of Flushing, Michigan passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, February 12. He was 59 years old.

Mike was born in Flint, Michigan on November 11, 1960 to Arnold and Cherrill (Welker) Jones. He was an adorable child, and he did his best to make sure no one ever forgot it. His love of storytelling—and of having his family gathered around to listen—defined his whole life. He met Suzanne Marie Roesner in 1974 while they were both in junior high (though they never quite agreed on whether this meant seventh or eighth grade). They eventually married on September 20, 1980, and their joyful union of laughter and friendship lasted for 40 years. They were blessed with two wonderful sons who wanted nothing more than to be just like their dad.

Mike hired into General Motors in 1979 and became a skilled trades welder until he retired in 2016. During this time, he never let work get in the way of fun or family—he simply did it all. If he had to spend his nights on third shift, he’d immediately go from the plant to the golf course, then home to spend time with his wife and boys. He was a remarkable athlete, frustrating his friends with impossible golf shots, and making legendary plays on the softball field. He was a parishioner of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, and he is fondly remembered for the years he volunteered at the school, where he spent many lunchtimes playing with the kids, which brought him even more joy than it brought them.

Mike will be overwhelmingly missed by his wife Suzanne, his son Bradley John and wife Deirdre, his son Ernest Daniel and wife Emily, and his best friend and grandson Harrison Michael. He is also survived by his siblings Terry Jones and wife Penny, Jackie Sova and husband Gary, Dewey Jones and wife Sue, Peggy Miller and husband Dale, and Margaret Howell and husband Tom, as well as his in-laws Kathy Olson and husband Nels, Ernie Roesner and wife Terry, and John Roesner and wife Janet. His numerous nieces, nephews, and their children will also deeply miss their Uncle Mike, as will his special golf buddies Don Fridline and Jim Jerichow, and childhood friend Steve Hudson. He is predeceased by his parents and his older sister Sherry, as well as his father-in-law John Roesner, mother-in-law Geraldine Roesner, and brother-in-law David.

The family would also like to offer special thanks to nurse Stephanie and spiritual advisor Chris of Residential Hospice, who made Mike’s final weeks comfortable.

Mike, we are so happy you can rest, and that for you, “all the world’s a sunny day” now. We’ll see you soon.
