CHALUT, Rene Joseph – of Flint, MI, age 87, passed away Friday, July 14, 2017. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, G-5199 Richfield Road, Flint, MI 48506; Rev. William Wegher celebrant. Entombment, with Military Honors, in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 1-4 PM & 6-8 PM Monday, July 17, 2017 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423 and 10-11 AM Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. A Memorial Service, under the auspices of Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #4090 and Fourth Degree Assembly #0523 of Davison will be held 6:30 PM Monday, July 17, 2017. A Rosary will be prayed 7:30 PM Monday, July 17, 2017. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chalut family, in Rene’s memory.
Rene was born in Flint, MI on November 13, 1929, son of the late Arthur and Emillia (Russell) Chalut. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Rene married Audrey “Pat” Kanupp on September 6, 1969 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Flint, MI. She preceded him in death on September 23, 2010. He retired from Fisher Body on Coldwater Road as a Supervisor on September 1, 1987 after more than 25 years of service. Rene was an active member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, American Legion Flint Post #64, Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #4090 and Fourth Degree Assembly #0523. He loved fishing, gardening, traveling and spending time with his family.
Rene is survived by 2 daughters, Emilie (Alton) Schuessler and Michelle (Mark) Williams; 4 grandchildren, Nathan, Leah, AJ and Isabel; brother, Edward (Mary) Chalut; sister, Connie Wilson; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Loraine (Dave) Rivett.
