Smarney , Joanne Marie - Age 81, of Durand, died September 23, 2018. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM Friday, September 28 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 9450 Duffield Rd., Gaines, Fr. Jonathan Perrotta celebrant. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, Gaines. Visitation will be held 2-8 PM Thursday with a 7 PM Rosary and Divine Chaplet service at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, our temporary location at the Hill Creek Church, 5363 Hill Rd., Swartz Creek. Visitation also 9:30 AM until the time of mass Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Those desiring may make contributions to masses. Joanne was born July 25, 1937 in Dearborn the daughter of James and Mary (Toth) Sparr. She married John M. Smarney on September 14, 1957 in Farmington; he preceded her in death February 26, 2012. Joanne retired as a clerk with the Genesee County Drain Commission with many years of service. She was a devoted and active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gaines for over 40 years. Joanne enjoyed knitting hats, prayers shawls, and lap blankets for cancer patients and the needy. She was an avid master gardener. Surviving are: daughter Julie Smarney of Mt. Clemens; siblings, James "Greg" (Mary) Sparr of Howell, Randy Sparr of Howell, Pam Sparr of Flint, Brad (Susan) Sparr of Texas; many nieces and nephews. She was the loving mother to her cat Rudy and doting grandmother to dogs, Quinn, Liza and Sting. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son John Smarney Jr.; and brothers Timothy and Rick Sparr. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. |
