COOKINGHAM, JoAnn, of Flushing, age 82, died Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at Flushing United Methodist Church. Pastor JJ Mannschreck will officiate. Visitation will be 12 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 19 at Rossell Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Flushing Christian Outreach Center, Flushing Area Historical Society, Flushing Fire Department, or Hurley Hospital Emergency Department Services.
JoAnn was born in Hazelton Township, Michigan on February 6, 1937 to Cecil and Leona (Conklin) McKone. JoAnn had a variety of hobbies that spanned her life. In her earlier years she was a member of the Frozen 40 Snowmobile Club, bowled on several leagues, and loved playing pinochle with friends. She and her husband, Mike, founded and operated for the Roaring 20's Ice Cream Parlor in downtown flushing for 12 years. JoAnn enjoyed spending time at the Bush Lake cabin with family and friends. JoAnn stayed healthy by walking five miles daily with her good friend, Jan. JoAnn and Mike had many adventures driving their vintage cars around the country with friends collecting antique glassware along the way. In her later years JoAnn loved to read, keep the house spotless, tend her garden, and manicure her lawn. JoAnn loved to bake, can her garden surplus, and make jam that she generously gave to friends and family. JoAnn was lovingly cared for by Hurley Medical Center and Kindred Home Hospice.
JoAnn is survived by her husband of over 63 years, Mike Cookingham; children, Gary (Jeanne Beresford) Cookingham and Gerald (Lisa) Cookingham; grandchildren, Jacob (Chelsey) Cookingham, Kalyn (Mark) Nowicki, and Kacey (Vince) Belitsos; great-grandchildren, Carter Cookingham, Ollie Nowicki, Benson Nowicki, and Evelyn Belitsos; brother, Richard (Jo) McKone; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Jack McKone and Robert McKone. |
