SCHERBA, John – of Davison, MI, age 89, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2020. A Funeral Service will be held at 12 PM Monday, June 29, 2020 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 5073 Daly Blvd, Flint, MI 48506; Pastor Gary Beck officiating. The family will receive visitors from 10:30 AM until the time of service on Monday. Private interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be to St. Mark Lutheran Church.
John was born in Otisville, MI on January 7, 1931 son of the late Peter and Mary (Cimba) Scherba. He graduated from Otisville High School in 1949 where he played baseball and led the team in hitting his senior year. John served 2 years in the US Army during the Korean War and worked in Aerial Photography. He married Louise Wash on June 9, 1956, and she preceded him in death on October 8, 1995. John worked 39 years at the General Motors Ternstedt Plant. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching Nascar races, Tiger baseball, Lions football and U/M football. John loved playing euchre and dominoes with family and friends. He also enjoyed spending summers at his cottage on Sand Lake with his good friends Bob & Jean Lyon and Janet & Jerry Crispell. John enjoyed spending the winters in Holiday, FL. He was a lifetime member of the Davison VFW. John married Myrneth Gallmeier on March 27, 1998 in Davison, MI.
John is survived by wife Myrna; children, Darwin (Jennifer) Scherba, Darell (Ramona) Scherba, daughter-in-law, Kristy Scherba; brother, Pete Scherba; grandchildren, Anthony (Samantha), Joey (Michelle), Lizzie, Hannah, Nick, Sara, and Chelsy; great-grandchildren, Michael and Solomon. Sisters, Ann and Mary; son, Gary Scherba and granddaughter, Katie Scherba preceded John in death.
