Rebecca Lou Thick, 71 a lifetime resident of Lapeer, died Monday, May 21, 2012. Rebecca was born March 30, 1941 in North Branch, daughter to J.P. and Laura (Slater) McGlashen.
Rebecca graduated from Lapeer High School, class of 1959. She married Kenneth Thick on July 11, 1959 at the Grace Episcopal Church in Lapeer where she attended over 55 years. Rebecca worked for the MSU Cooperative Extension Service in Lapeer, retiring in 2000 after 25 years of service including 15 years as the teamster union representative. Rebecca was extremely active member of our community, having been a long term member of the following clubs and organizations: Lapeer East Boosters, Lapeer County Center Building Board, Lapeer Horticulture Club, the B.P.W., the J.C. Auxiliary, Lapeer Day Parade Committee, American Legion Post #16, Miss Lapeer Pageant Queen Chaperon, Lapeer County 4-H, the Hosta Club and the Junior Child Study Club. And above all, Rebecca was a loving mother, wife and grandmother.
Rebecca is survived by her husband, Kenneth Thick of Lapeer; children: Deanna Thick of Lapeer, Edward (Ellen) Thick of Lapeer and Steven Thick of Davison; her mother, Laura Phelps of Burton; eight grandchildren: Angela, Jessica, Kyle, Ryan, Joe, Kimberly, Samantha and Jacob; siblings: Roberta (Larry) Eckel of Hadley, Jesse (Nikki) McGlashen of Florida, Lois Poland of Oregon, Ramona Trimble of Burton, Rhonda (Scott) Tyson of Flint and Tim Poland of New Mexico. Rebecca was preceded in death by her father, J.P. McGlashen and her infant daughter Debra Ann Thick.
Visitation will be 4-8pm Tuesday & 1-4/6-8pm Wednesday at Muir Brothers in Lapeer. Rebecca’s funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 2, 2012 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer, Pastor Todd D. Smith officiating. Burial in Stiles Cemetery, Lapeer.
