Myrton Norris Jones (96) of Grand Blanc, Michigan passed away peacefully at his home on March 28, 2018. Myrt was preceded in death by his parents Paul S. and Charlotte Jones. He had one brother, Albert W. Jones, and his wife Ruth, both deceased. Myrt was born in Columbus, Indiana on November 28, 1921. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1939 and Purdue University in 1948 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He served as First Lieutenant in the Field Artillery of the Army during WWII. He retired from AH Spark Plug Division of General Motors (Flint, MI) in 1985 as the section supervisor of computer modeling analysis. A member of First Presbyterian Church of Flint, he served as a volunteer computer systems administrator and electronic and audio systems technician. He also was a volunteer at Comcast Community Access Channel 17 for a number of years. Membership in organizations include Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, The Society of Automotive Engineers, Society of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Elks, Schussmiesters’ Ski Club and the Tyrolean Ski Adventures Club. Myrt enjoyed video and audio recording, tinkering in his workshop, scuba diving, archery, woodcarving, studying the piano and Alpine ski racing (having won a national gold medal at age 87). A lifelong learner, he was always working on a project. Surviving are his wife of almost 69 years, Mary Alice (Armstrong); his four children: Bruce A. Jones, M.D. (Michelle Pierron, M.D.) of Grosse Pointe Woods, MI, Mark D. Jones, Major U.S. Air Force retired (Esther) of Arizona, Pamela Weston (Donald Weston, M.D.) of Grandville, MI, and Gregory S. Jones (Joanne) of Colorado; 10 grandchildren: Katie (Jason) Boyd, Allison (Heather) Jones, Gregory (Julie) Jones, David (Dalia) Jones, Max Weston, Robyn Weston, Andrew Jones, Robert Jones, William Jones, and Matthew Jones. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church of Flint, 746 Saginaw St., Flint. Rev. Dr. Joseph Novak and Rev. Paul Ytterock officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service beginning at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, checks may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund; in the memo line please write “In memory of Myrton Jones.”
