On May 20th, 2024, at 8:59pm, God called home his beautiful daughter Patty Brege. Patty was at home, surrounded by family and blanketed in their love when she lost her battle with cancer at the young age of 60.
Patty is survived by her husband of 41 years, Randy Brege and her two sons Matthew (Laura) Brege and Mark (Kendra) Brege. She also leaves behind her four beloved grandchildren Aiyana, Greyson, Sawyer, and Ivan. Her family and friends were her most treasured possessions.
Patty was born November 5th, 1963 at Hurley Hospital in Flint, to Duane and Donna Brewer of Vassar Michigan. Patty was the second oldest child in her family of five siblings Gary (Karen) Brewer, Teresa (Daniel) Samdal, Kenny (Tracy) Brewer, Kimberly (Vic) Wheeler. Patty loved to reminisce and tell stories of her childhood with her siblings, cousins, and neighborhood friends. She was blessed with a best friend, who was more like a sister, Valora. Their friendship lasted a lifetime.
Patty always had a strong work ethic. Some of her more memorable jobs were working at an egg farm and also as a candy striper with her best friend Valora. One of her favorite positions was her time as a janitor in Millington Schools. Patty didn’t only do her janitorial duties but also helped out in the kitchen and anywhere else she could. She loved the children at the schools and worked to be a positive influence in their lives.
Patty and Randy’s two sons brought her lots of joy and lots of great stories from their childhood. Having two energetic boys wasn’t always easy but she loved watching them play ball, participate in school plays, and just watching them grow. Her love and guidance helped make them into the amazing men they are today. She was very proud of them both.
Patty and Randy shared an inspiring love. They fell in love at a young age, married when Patty was just 18 years old and started their family right away. They went through struggles, as all couples do, but their love continued to grow through job changes, moving, car accidents/injuries, cancer and all other obstacles life threw at them. Patty and Randy moved to Posen in the early 2000’s and shortly after, their sons followed suit. Patty was instrumental in helping both of her sons find love while working at the local grocery store. Later she and Randy bought that store and embarked on a labor of love. It was a lot of work but they put their heart and soul into it. Patty loved her customers and making her store a cozy and welcoming place. They eventually moved on from the store and relocated to the Gaylord area . Here Patty worked at the post office and then at Cooper Standard while she and Randy spent time enjoying life as grandparents for several years before moving back to Posen. When Patty could no longer work, her and Randy were able to enjoy their time together as a couple. They spent time camping, mostly at Mill Creek and in the U.P., and making day trips to the Mackinac Bridge. They liked going to garage sales and collecting antiques. Patty was always finding neat things to decorate with. She had a knack for decorating and turned each home they had into something beautiful. Occasionally they liked to ride up to Rogers City to the Harbor or over to Grand Lake. They loved hosting family and friends at their home, going on boat rides, and bicycle rides.
Patty was an amazing “Nana”. She was right there for each birth and continued to be there for her grandbabies always. One of her favorite things was to take her grandbabies camping. She tried to take them once a year and share her love of the outdoors. When the grandkids came over Patty enjoyed taking them on walks, playing baseball, watching them go sledding, and just being present with them. She made holidays and everyday visits special for them and loved creating memories to last them a lifetime.
Patty was a beautiful person inside and out. She loved to look good with her hair and makeup always done up because it made her feel good. Her nails always looked beautiful and she shared her love of pretty fingernails with her niece Leandra and granddaughter Aiyana. Patty was always trying out new hairstyles and colors. She was never afraid to try something new and always ended up looking beautiful. She loved shopping, especially for purses and shoes but also wouldn’t say no to a cute jacket or new pair of jeans. Patty loved a good book and would read anything from thrillers to Amish love stories. She loved her flower gardens and usually had several around her yard. Patty loved just sitting outside in her swing enjoying the fresh air and watching the wildlife. Later in life, she developed a love for diamond art and made many beautiful creations she generously shared.
Words cannot express how much this beautiful woman will be missed. Her passing leaves a hole in our hearts, especially her husband Randy who took such great care of her when she got sick and gave her all the love he had to give.
Patty is preceded in death by her grandparents, father-in-law Herbert Brege, niece Melissa Brown, and nephew Tony Brewer.
A celebration of life will be held for Patty at her parents house on June 15th, 2024. |
